It seems increasingly likely that Microsoft's next-generation Xbox series will have two members: In addition to the previously unveiled Xbox Series X, there may be another, less powerful variant that is primarily recommended for those with a full HD resolution display. It is rumored that the console, dubbed the Xbox Series S, may be unveiled by Microsoft in August and will be expected to be released roughly at the same time as the Xbox Series X.
In his devkit called “Dante”, a parameterization option was found that runs the game with a performance profile that matches the capabilities of the lesser-known version. In other words, this mode guarantees that games developed for the Xbox Series X can be enjoyed on the little brother with significantly lower graphics performance.
Although Lockhart will receive an AMD Zen 2 CPU ticking at the same clock as the higher-powered version, based on internal documents obtained by The Verge, graphics core performance and memory size may decrease. The former from the Xbox Series X 12 teraflops to 4 terafops, the latter from 13.5 GB to 7.5 GB (memory available for applications).
Over the past six months, Microsoft has gradually sprinkled crumbs of information about the new Xbox family. The company first unveiled official details last December of how it envisions the next generation of Xbox game consoles – at which time the official name of the new console was also unveiled. The first major specifications for the hardware arrived in February, and in March the manufacturer announced more detailed specifications for the console.
